Brooklyn, known as the “Community of Flags”, is a classic rural Iowa small town located in the Heartland of America nestled between the Big and Little Bear Creeks and beyond. Brooklyn’s bridges over these creeks connects the quality lifestyle of both Rural and Urban styles.


Brooklyn is a typical small rural community with its gently rolling hills, flat areas tucked between plateaus and hills with productive diversified agriculture as its main industry.

Historical homes and buildings of Brooklyn and surrounding countryside represent English Gothic, Italianate, Jacobean, Queen Anne and Victorian styles.


Located 45 miles from Iowa City, 60 miles from Waterloo-Cedar Falls, 65 miles from Des Moines and 30 miles from the Amana Colonies. Brooklyn has the benefits of small town living within an hour’s drive to the “bright lights” in Eastern Central Iowa.


Brooklyn’s “Avenue of Flags” is a permanent lighted display of flags featuring a 20’ x 38’ U.S. flag on an 80’ pole flying year round. Flags of all 50 states, Armed Services, and special interest surround the gigantic flag. Thirty-five International flags of various Countries line Brooklyn’s downtown streets.
